As one competitor has described it, "Curious tournament thus far." Indeed. Can't remember a time with so few big upsets, no buzzer-beater thrillers or overtimes and so many blow out games with scores in the 90-point range. But maybe Sunday's games will change that storyline. If not, we're going to have some tough picks to make in the Sweet 16 with high-seeded teams.
No one got all 3 upsets Saturday but 6 competitors went 7 of 8. We'll see if anyone runs the table Sunday with an 8 for 8. The Rookie beginner's luck tradition continues with first-timers Hunter atop the board and Mike Franklin has been steadily working his way into the lane. There are some candidates for Comeback Kid already with some big movement from the bottom of the heap toward the middle.
Kudos to the Wolverines for a big win! Can they stay hot enough to take down the overall #1 Auburn? And the Sparties need to come out of the gate stronger against New Mexico than they did against Bryant. Rick Pitino Sr. got knocked out yesterday. Pitino Jr. will be pulling out all the stops to get his Lobos to the Sweet 16. The Poolmaster's "Curious Game of the Day" for Sunday will be whether UConn can play beyond their season-long M.O. and return to championship form against Florida. They're repeat reigning champs. Can they knock off a #1 for a third run at the crown? Enjoy the Madness.
